No. 9 Florida Soccer hosted Florida Atlantic on Friday and San Diego State on Sunday, winning both matches.
Story and Photos by Rodney Rogers
Friday, the Gators attacked Florida Atlantic quickly scoring 3 goals in the first 14 minutes. No. 4 McKenzie Barney scored in the 3rd minute, with No. 9 Tahnai Annis adding a goal at the 6th minute mark. No. 22 Natalia Torosian scored in the 14th minute, giving the Gators a 3-0 lead. The rest of the game remained scoreless, giving the Gators the win.
On Sunday, the Gators faced their first out-of-state team, San Diego State. The first half was hot and scoreless. It was Dollar Day at James G. Pressly Stadium, and hotdogs and drinks were only a dollar so I went for it. As I was setting up at the beginning of the second half, No. 4 McKenzie Barney scored a goal only 40 seconds into it. The Gators were the aggressors during the second half and kept the San Diego defending their goal. The final score was 1-0 Gators, giving them a 4-0 season.
At the end of the game, Alberta the Alligator gave me the “We are number one!” sign as she headed to the locker room.
The Gator Soccer team will only play one more home game on September 3rd, at 7pm. Then, they’ll be on the road for the rest of the month.
